As we are the umbrella body for all cultural clubs affiliated with OUSA, it is our duty to keep communicating to these cultural clubs on updates that are sensitive to international students and domestic students with international background. We provide opportunities for these cultural clubs to accept the proposal to participate on large scale events. In exchange, they provide us with a smooth communication on issues arising from their cultural clubs, including club system, issues from members (academic, wellbeing, etc.) and consultations. These are the cultural clubs that are working with us to ensure that you are well represented on OISA submissions and works.

If you want more information on their club, contact them or have a look on their groups or pages. The links for each cultural club are provided down below.

Indian Students’ Association (ISA)

Namaste everybody! We are Otago University’s official Indian Student Association (ISA). The purpose of ISA lies further than our title as a university club. We aim to celebrate Indian culture and traditions with our peers while ensuring that we provide a safe and encouraging atmosphere for all students interested in our culture! Because the celebration of traditional festivals is deep-rooted in most Indian families, every year, ISA aims to serve our students by carrying out a variety of well-organised activities and events to make our Indian community and friends feel at home. We start the year with a colour bang through our Holi celebrations and then host various events throughout the academic year such as food festivals, Garba, Independence Day and our popular annual cultural night show where we showcase our vibrant culture through acting, singing and dancing. We also have memberships available which allow you to receive exclusive perks around Dunedin. We welcome all friends who love Indian culture to be a part of the ISA family. We are friendly, crazy enthusiastic, very diverse and look forward to meeting everybody who wants to experience 2022 with us!

Otago Malaysian Students’ Association (OMSA)

Welcome! We humbly welcome you all to the Otago Malaysian Students Association.

As much as university can be a stressful time in your life, it is also the time where you make the best memories and being surrounded by like-minded people will change your experience. That’s where OMSA comes in; a student association established in 1963 and steadily growing since as internationals, locals, Malaysians and non-Malaysians all come together to celebrate a diverse culture and find their new home away from home. Our student committee is devoted in continuing to bring you another year celebrating the diverse Malaysian culture with food, festivals, ball night, fun trips, games and the very renowned event: Bersatu. A competition bringing all the Malaysians across New Zealand in one city to compete through many different activities.

Despite the unpredictable times with Covid, we are still able to connect with our club members globally through our “Chill-lah with OMSA” podcast series. Bringing the vibrant culture to life through personal anecdotes and historical stories every fortnight, whether you are near or far. So don’t miss the chance this year to join the warm community we have to offer and never fall short of making lasting memories and lifelong friendship. We can’t wait to meet you all and offer this once in a lifetime opportunity at Otago. Just bring some fun and banter and let the journey begin.
